Electrification of Kochi Metro Rail Network

Brief Summary

Jakson was awarded the Electrical & Mechanical project (E&M) for Kochi Metro Rail project by DMRC. Scope of work for this project included supply, installation, testing and commissioning of DG sets, electrical LT panels, lighting systems, EOT cranes, fire-fighting, plumbing & HVAC systems for all 22 metro stations and 1 metro depot. The project was completed in a span of 2 years which is fastest completion for DMRC for any Metro project in the country. The first phase of 11 stations was inaugurated by the Honourable Prime Minister Shree Narendra Modi on June, 2017.

About the Client

Kochi Metro is one of India’s most recent metro projects. It is being constructed in the metropolitan city of Kochi in the Indian state of Kerala. It is one of the first projects in the country that seamlessly connects rail, road and water transport facilities in the city. A distance of 13.4 km section (metro line) from Aluva to Palarivattom of this project was opened to public on June 17, 2017.

Kochi metro leads the country in usage of renewable energy. All 23 stations in the network has solar panels installed that together generate 2.3 MW of clean power. Plans are afoot to scale this capacity to 4 MW which is equivalent to half of the network’s total energy demand.

Business Need

The client floated a global tender to hire an experienced Electrical EPC company to carry out E&M work for 22 metro station and 1 metro depot in the Kochi Metro Network. The scope of work included supply, installation, testing and commissioning of DG sets, electrical LT panels, lighting systems, EOT cranes, fire-fighting, plumbing & HVAC systems.

Solution

Jakson possesses extensive experience in engineering design, installation, testing and commissioning of multi-disciplinary rail projects. We also have the capabilities to build, power and connect substations working at the voltages up to 33kV for metro rail projects.

For the Kochi metro E&M project, Jakson provided a turnkey E&M solution for this project. All project work was carried out in conformity with the current rules and regulations of the local electricity authority, the Indian standard institution and the Indian Electricity Rules and Act. Jakson was also required to furnish all install all materials, appliances, and equipment at the site.
